Library Media Specialist, North Bergen High School, North Bergen, NJ

Krista Welz has been the North Bergen High School’s Library Media Specialist for 3 years now, improving the average annual circulation of books by 97%. Being a lifelong resident of her town, she also worked for the town’s public library for 7 years as the Children’s Librarian. She is a certified Librarian and Media Specialist, as well as a Google for Education Certified Trainer. She provides tech support for the high school, runs the Library Media Center and provides technological Professional Development for teachers. She also reviews literature and apps for School Library Journal and is a graphic and web designer. Krista serves on the BELS Consortium Executive Board and is Chair on the Website Committee. Within the last 3 years, she has won her high school a YALSA grant and Winner of the Scholastic Reading Club & James Patterson Pledge/Grant Giveway for School Libraries 2015. Her professional goal is focused on technology integration in education and libraries. Within the last year, she presented an AASL nationwide webinar, and at both NJECC and NJAMLE annual educational conferences.
